That damn Eagle gets everywhere, the Dollar, Roman Legions, Nazi Germany and Egypt.

Or does it simply symbolise top predators?

l mean how can it symbolise so many things without confusing the issue?

The Building society Nationwide used to have the Owl and they changed it to a house.
l am bad for associating Germany flag for Nazi rule this was a genuine mistake and l meant to say German flag of COURSE l did!
Silly silly me!

Why does Barclays Bank have an Eagle as a symbol, not unlike the Federal Reserve Bank

There could be a connection those places are the ones who hold people to ransome.
I went in my local Barclay is to open an ISA as described in the leaflet in the foyer I was already a customer but I had to make an appointment. The manager tried to tell me that the TAX free account was no longer available, and tried to stick me into another. I refused and opened an ISA elsewhere.

And it does not stop there. Albania, Armenia, Austria, Czech Republic - & that is just the countries up to 'C'. Loads of football teams use it too.

The best info I found was in Wikipedia is article 'Eagles in Heraldry', which states: ''The eagle symbolized strength, courage, farsightedness & immortality. It is considered to be the king of the air & the messenger of the highest Gods. Mythologically, it is connected by the Greeks with the God Zeus, by the Romans with Jupiter, & by the Germanic tribes with Odin.''

Why Barclays Bank use it as their corporate logo is lost on me though. Their website does not seem to mention it, so I am interested to see whether anyone knows.

In the meantime, have a star.

It appears to be older than the fed bank. According to Barclay is historical material, it was the sign over the shop where they first set up business in the18th century..

The eagle was not a symbol of the Nazi party but of Germany and was used by the German nation before th Nazi is came to power.
